On the night of Saturday, May 5th 2007 the WP crew rolled out our 2nd Midnight Drag Race in Los Angeles. This time the chaos spanned the historic 6th street bridge over the Los Angeles river as the clear and lucid DTLA skyline loomed large in the near distance. About 200 cyclists and spectators kicked it to watch as 68 racers gave their all attempting to qualify for a spot amongst the bracketed head to head competitions. The night was warm and loose with good vibes all around. Yes, this was a competition but it was also for a good cause as $5 entry fees were collected to be donated in full to fallen rider Rebecca to help with her medical bills.
The night featured many of the top qualifiers from the first Drag Race running game once again... Top riders included Jack, Troy, Josh, the undefeated Beatriz, Wolfrider1, Gomi, Tanner, Matt R., and others along with some new faces like that of the monstrous Chet Bearclaw, a surprisingly fast Alex (co-conspirator of Ride Arc), Long Beach Fixie Rider Diana, and many others who came down just to have a good time and support the emerging commuter cyclist movement in Los Angeles. Things looked to get interesting with Jack and Tony Z each entering both the Men's Single and Multi-Speed divisions... Jack showing uber-confidence having ridden an additional 100+ mile trek earlier in the day at Redlands. Alas! Tony and Jack's self-imposed challenges proved to be too much to overcome as each were eliminated prior to the finals which meant some unexpected but much welcome new blood in the winners circle. In the end Wolfrider Josh took first place Men's single speed and Team Bearclaw's secret weapon, Chet Bearclaw took first in Men's Multi-Speed Division. No upsets occurred on the Women's side as Beatriz easily handled both Single and Multi-Speed classes maintaining her undefeated record at the Drag Races. The question remains.... will the women of Southern Cali step up to challenge Beatriz??? We shall see. Drag Race 3 is coming up. Prepare your thighs Los Angeles...
PRIZES
1st and 2nd place winners for each division were awarded some dope prizes provided by Ambiguous Clothing, XLarge, Orange 20, DRIF DTLA and Biciconcepts. 1st place winners for each division received the uniquely printed and much coveted Wolfpack.Hustle dog tag medals... ownership of which indicates the final fucking say-so if you will.
THANKS
Wolfpack extends much thanks and gratitude to everyone who came down and added to the good times and especially to those who helped keep the event organized and moving along. An extra special shout goes out to "The Coach" (Dennis) for coming through once again with all the necessary equipment, knowledge and insider info to document such a happening... To Cole, Amy, Rasta Raj, and Superfish for keeping time and organizing, the every sexy-thighed Tattiya for counting down the racers, cameraman/commentator Ubrayj02, Sean C and Richard for capturing some excellent footage. A big west-up to "New York" and the entire Ulock mob DTLA for their support and firebreathing antics. And finally, a shout out and thanks to the L.A.P.D. for being so kind as to look the other way and let us have our fun. Wolfpack always promotes respect for the badge.
